Public Notice for Candidates for City Elected Offices for the November 2, 2021 General Election
The electorate of the City of Harbor Springs shall elect two (2) City Councilpersons for
two (2) year terms at the November 2, 2021 General Election. To be considered as a
candidate as a City Councilperson, a petition shall be circulated by the candidate or
members of his/her committee. A minimum of twenty-five (25) valid signatures of
registered electors are needed and must be submitted to the City Clerk on or before
4:00 p.m. July 20, 2021.
Once a candidate’s petition is received, the City Clerk or City Staff shall review the
signatures on the petition to determine if there are twenty-five valid signatures of
registered electors. Each candidate must be qualified to run for office. Chapter 4,
Section 4.2, page 12 of the City Charter states:
No person shall be eligible for any elective office in the City unless:
The Candidate shall be a qualified elector of the City;
The Candidate must have been a resident for two (2) years immediately prior to
the date of the election at which he/she is a candidate; and,
No Candidate can be in default to the City; and,
No Candidate shall have held office for more than three (3) consecutive terms.
Should there be any interested individuals wishing to run for City Councilperson, you
may obtain the necessary petitions at the City Clerk’s office.
