Notes from the City Manager

June 16, 2008

The City of Harbor Springs is pleased to be “on-line” with its own web site. Working with AlphaGeek Web Design, we try continually to make our site simple to navigate, while hopefully providing useful information to you our users.

I always like to refer you to the City Notices section of the web site, where you can find both public hearing notices and seasonal notices of interest.

Summer is almost here, and spring brush and leaf pick-up is now over, and we are on our summer schedule of picking up brush only on the third Tuesday of the month. Please refer to the City Notices - Seasonal page on the web site for the rules and limits associated with summer brush pick-up.

Parking rules and regulations in the downtown are now being enforced. If you do have any questions about parking, please contact the Police Department at 526-6211, and/or check their web site, harborspringspolice.com.

I consider Harbor Springs a very “walkable” community, and it was good to see the snow and ice disappear. If you are walking your dog, please remember that City regulations require you to pick up your dog waste. Carry a baggy along, and then drop the waste into a garbage can. Other walkers will appreciate your cooperation.

I also want to compliment the Garden Club and all our businesses and residents who do such a wonderful job planting and maintaining flowers to beautify the community.

As you turn on your lawn sprinkler systems, please practice some restraint in how long and how often you water. Water, though abundant, is still a precious commodity, and without some care, our pumping capacity could be exceeded, in which case we would have to put in place sprinkling limitations. So please exercise some restraint.

Fred Geuder,
City Manager
